A cleric in Delhi has been arrested for raping a minor girl inside a mosque. Delhi Police gave information regarding this incident on Tuesday (June 1, 2021). After registering an FIR, the police produced the accused cleric in the court. The court has sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.
Police said that this action was taken after receiving the complaint. Also assured that justice should be done immediately in this case, that is why the process of filing charge sheet is being completed as soon as possible after investigation. According to the complaint, the victim minor girl has told in her statement that the incident happened at 10 pm on Sunday (May 30, 2021) when she had gone inside the mosque to fetch water.
It is alleged that there the 48-year-old accused cleric stopped her and then raped her. After going home, the victim told the family about the incident, after which they informed the police. Medical examination is being done on the victim. After getting information about this incident, a crowd of angry people gathered outside the mosque, who had to deploy policemen there to pacify them.
When the family members asked the girl the reason for coming so late at night, she gave information about the incident. After this, the family reached the mosque with some neighbors, but seeing the people, he ran out of the back door of the mosque and took shelter in Loni, Ghaziabad. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Ilyas. The police resorted to technical surveillance to arrest the accused cleric.
A police team was sent to his location, from where he was nabbed. He was nabbed from Ghaziabad. Arrangements have also been made for counseling of 12-year-old minor victim. A case has been registered against the accused under section 376 (rape) of IPC as well as 'Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO Act)'. The accused cleric is originally a resident of Bharatpur in Rajasthan.
